LA Times - Social isolation increases risk of early death, study finds

"When cities are designed for cars, people are left isolated in their homes. A new study out of Britain has found there may be a link between loneliness and isolation, and decreased longevity. This means walkability is important not just for the health benefits of active transportation, but for the social health benefits of connecting to your community." --- The Walkable and Livable Communities Institute
